Choppy Water comes out in two weeks!

20 October 2026

I've bought my Captain's hat, I've warmed up my voice ("Betty Botter had some butter!") and I've practised explaining what the book is about ("Imagine Speed 2: Cruise Control but more gruesome.") Now all I need is an audience…

…but there aren't many registrations for the Sydney launch yet. I'm starting to worry it might be cancelled.

I think the value proposition is pretty good – tickets are only $5 when you buy a signed copy of the book ($15 for entry only, though). I'll be interviewed by Richard Glover, who's not only a bestselling author but also a beloved columnist and radio personality. (And he's hilarious.) There'll be drinks, laughter, and the opportunity to mingle with fellow booklovers. But I'm not quite sure how to get the word out.

Do you know anyone in Sydney you could tell? (Are you in Sydney and would you like to come?) It's at 6pm for a 6:30 start on Wednesday November 4 at Gleebooks. Tickets at trybooking.com. 🎟️

If you're in Canberra…

The launch at Belconnen Library finally has an event page! I'll be interviewed by Bookstagram sensation Madi Samuels on Saturday November 7. There will be cake. 6pm (doors open at 5:45). Get your free ticket now! 🎟️

And as for Melbourne…

Nothing's confirmed yet, but I'm looking at The Leaf bookshop in Ashburton. My hypothetical interviewer would be cosy-crime master Kate Solly. Save the date(s): 10/11 November! 🗓️

Other events:

These aren't Choppy Water launches, but you should still come! I'd love to see you.

Cheers,
Jack
